Bantwal: Group Clashes in Vittal Threaten to Mar Peace

Bantwal, Jul 7: The clashes that erupted between two groups in Vittal on July 3, the on which a Bharath bundh was organized, have refused to die down. The enmity brewing between the groups came to the fore when both the groups fought with each other on the evening on Sunday July 6.

A Hindu organization of Vittal origin had been celebrating the creation of their own 'Nasik Band', which was inaugurated on Sunday. After a verbal altercation ensued between a youth from this organization with a member of the other group, the other person filed a complaint with the Vittal police. It is reported that the policemen took away three people belonging to the Hindu Yuva Sene. Hindu organization members staged a protest in front of Vittal police station against this act. Later, the BJP leaders came to the police station and succeeded in settling the dispute through compromise.

In the evening however, tension spread across the town when members of both the groups fought in the evening at Vittal bus stand, disturbing peace. Four persons belonging to the Hindu outfit and two from the other group got admitted to Puttur and Vittal hospitals respectively, after getting injured.

Assistant superintendent of police Abhishek Goel is camping at Vittal. Circle inspector Belliappa is investigating the case. Additonal police force were deployed to maintain law and order in the town. Cases have been registered against both the groups and three have so far been taken into custody by the police.
