Mangalore, Jul 6: Yakshagana is the life of Tulunadu and it is possible to create awareness against pollution-causing industrial plants through this art, said Pradeepkumar Kalkura, president of Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishad on Saturday, July 5.

Speaking at the felicitation and remembrance programme organized by the ‘Havyasi Balaga’ of Kadri, Kalkura said fertile Dakshina Kannada had been declared barren by a satellite survey and these results would be handed over to the responsible industries. These industries will also destroy the culture of this earth, he added.

Renowned Yakshagana artiste Dr Prabhakar Joshi was felicitated on the occasion. Kumble Sundar Rao, Sanskara Bharati president, said Joshi could give a new dimension to any character in Yakshagana since he could perform all parts with aplomb. Rao termed him an expert in literature, culture, and philosophy.

Yakshagana artiste and organizer, the late Nagesh Salian was remembered at the function. B V Bhat Seraje recounted the virtues of Salian. Ananthakrishna, chairman of Karnataka Bank, presided over the function.

Mangalore City Corporation joint director Ajitkumar Hegde, ‘vaastu’ expert Rajkumar Kulshekar, Sureshraj, Shashikant Nagvekar, Ratnakar Jain, and Ganesh Padavinangady were also present.
