Snow in Himachal brings down mercury


Shimla, Nov 29 (IANS): Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday largely witnessed a sunny but chilly day with temperatures in many areas staying below freezing point after overnight snowfall in the high hills.

"It was a bright, sunny day in most parts of the state. Higher reaches saw overnight snowfall that resulted in dip in the mercury," an official of the meteorological office told IANS.

He said Keylong, headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti district, was the coldest with a minimum temperature of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius. It saw three cm of snow. Udaipur and Gondola towns in the district also saw snowfall.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district was close to the freezing point at 0.4 degrees, while the temperature was zero degrees in Manali and 7.2 degrees in Dharamsala.

Shimla's night temperature was 6.9 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office has forecast dry weather across the state till the weekend.
