Mangalore, Jul 2: Truck owners have resorted to strike for an indefinite period from Tuesday July 1 midnight, putting forward certain demands. As a result, trucks did not ply on the roads here on Wednesday July 2.

Long queues of trucks were found along the highway owing to the strike. Meanwhile, the other vehicles felt it easier to move on the road, because of the truck strike.

The truck owners’ associations have blamed the central government of trying to reap benefits from the hike in the oil prices and forcing the truck owners to purchase high premium diesel. Meanwhile, the government is collecting toll fee unnecessarily and hiked the fee up by 50% over the rates prevailing as on  last February. Sources say that about 7.35 lac goods and commercial trucks from the state are participating in the strike since Tuesday midnight.
