Udupi, Jul 1: Activists of the local unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) and Bajrangdal staged a protest on Tuesday July 1 morning, braving heavy rains, in front of the office of the deputy commissioner (DC) here, urging the district administration and the police, to immediately conduct detailed probe into the killing of Hebri school teacher Bhoja Shetty and Suresh Shetty who were shot down by suspected Naxals, couple of months ago.

The protesters also urged the police to arrest a few locals who they alleged, were tacitly behind the above gruesome murder. These two were believed to have been slain by naxals. A thorough inquiry can unearth names of people involved with the murder.  These two individuals who fought against the naxal movement since the last many years should get justice for their long-drawn struggle and for sacrificing their lives for the cause they believed in.  They urged the police department to keep vigil on any person or organization which is seen extending support to the cause of the naxals in any manner.  If the role of such person or organization is confirmed, they should be banned without hesitation. The district should be made devoid of naxal threat, in order to enable the society to live in peace, they demanded.

VHP and Bajrangdal will be staging a motor cycle rally in the town on Wednesday July 2, to protest against the hurdles created to the 'Amarnath Yatra' in the Himalayan region owing to a dispute over forest land allotted to the shrine.

VHP district honorary president Balaji Raghavendra Acharya, VHP district president Y M Ramachandra Rao and Bajrang Dal district convener Divakar Bhandary were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, the protesters led by the president submitted their memorandum to deputy commissioner P Hemalatha.
