Puttur, Jun 26: Puttur assistant commissioner Vasant Kumar, who has been in the news of late on account of people friendly initiatives undertaken by him like demolition of unauthorised structures and  providing thrust to the continuing educaiton scheme etc., and also for rubbing the political leaders in the wrong, has vacated his office.

It is learnt, that the officer had received orders from the under secretary in the revenue department on Wednesday,  to immediately hand over charge of office and vacate the office. He has handed over charge of the office to Puttur tahsildar Venkateshaiah.

Dr K Harish Kumar, currently working as Bhatkal assistant commissioner is expected to take over the post vacated by Kumar on June 28. Vasant Kumar had received transfer orders last week but his place of posting has not yet been specified.

In the meanwhile, it is learnt that a departmental inquiry will be conducted about Vasant Kumar's failure to hand over his office for the construction of mini Vidhana Soudha for which foundation stone had been laid. It is alleged that the assistant commissioner did not obey the orders of the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner to hand over the office for the building proposed to be built there.

It may be recalled that motivators, deputy motivators and other people connected with the continuing education scheme supported by many others, had launched a post card campaign urging the government to retain the services of Kumar at Puttur.
