B'lore: State Selects 5 Distinguished Personalities to Legislative Council

Bangalore, Jun 22: State government has appointed 5 distinguished personalities for the legislative council, in recognition to their significant contribution to literature, language (Sanskrit), education and journalism.

Governor Rameshwar Takoor has signed the list on Saturday June 21 evening, forwarded by Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, through the Election Commission.

The minister Mumtaz Ali Khan has been selected under education quota. Meanwhile, Prof M R Doreswamy, founder of PES Education Institute, has been selected under education and social service. Former MP Vijay Sankeshwar, chairman of VRL Logistics Ltd and former owner of ‘Vijaya Karnataka’ leading Kannada daily under social service and journalism, Dr S R Leela (Sanskrit) and poet Dr Doddarange Gowda (literature) have been selected for the legislative council.
