Mangalore, Jun 22: Degree colleges under Mangalore University will reopen on June 30, K.M. Kaveriappa, Vice-Chancellor, has said.

Speaking to The Hindu, he said the university had decided to reopen the colleges on June 23. The decision to postpone it was taken following requests by the colleges.

“Some teachers have been deputed by the colleges for tabulation work of the university. The work will continue for one more week. They will be unable to conduct classes for the period.

Hence, all degree courses will commence from June 30,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT) has said in a release that the university had increased the dearness allowance by Rs. 50, for teachers evaluating examination answer scripts, tabulators and teachers deputed to checking squads. Those evaluating answer papers would get Rs. 2 extra per script, president of the association Joselyn T. Lobo and general secretary Ummappa Poojary P., said. The Syndicate of Mangalore University, in its meeting on April 19, took the decision, they added. A delegation consisting of members of the AMUCT and those from the Karnataka Government Colleges Teachers’ Association had submitted a memorandum to Mr. Kaveriappa to this effect, the release said.
