Udupi: Rain Damages 47 Houses; Rs. 6-Lac Loss

Udupi, Jun 14: As many as 47 houses were damaged owing to high winds accompanied with rain in Udupi taluk on Friday.

According to the Udupi taluk office, 27 houses were damaged at Nadsal in Padubidri village.



The damage to these houses has been estimated at Rs. 5 lakh. Another 15 houses were damaged in Palimar village and the loss is estimated at Rs. 35,000.

In Hejmady village, two houses were damaged and the tiled roofs of many houses were blown away. In Padubidri, one power transformer was damaged. The damage caused to the house of Sankhi Markalti at Udyavar village is estimated at Rs. 40,000.

The houses of Shantha Anilkumar at Shivally and of Shekhar Shetty at Tenka village suffered damages, estimated at Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 15,000, respectively.

According to the district administration, Udupi district received a rainfall of 88.06 mm in the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Friday. The rainfall received in Udupi taluk was 126.4 mm, Kundapur taluk 97.6 mm and Karkala taluk 40.2 mm, according to official statistics.
