Davangere: Farmers Stage ‘Rasta Roko’

The Hindu

Davangere, Jun 7: Farmers staged a ‘rasta roko’ on the Bangalore-Pune national highway here on Thursday protesting the short supply of fertilizers. The farmers later assembled at the IFFECO office in the city and demanded that five quintals of fertilizers be released to each farmer.

IFFECO officials said they could only release two and half quintals, which resulted in heated arguments between the officials and farmer leaders. Assistant Director of Agriculture Manjula convinced the officials to release five quintals to each farmer.

Joint Director, Department of Agriculture, Shivamurthappa, told The Hindu that over 150 tonnes of fertilizers had been distributed to farmers on Thursday and 1,200 tonnes is expected to arrive on Thursday night, which would be distributed to the farmers on Friday.
