Karkala, Jun 3: Congress leader and Karkala municipal councillor Shubada Rao has alleged that ex-Karkala legislator Sunil Kumar, frustrated over his defeat in the recent election, has been hatching a conspiracy to end his life with the help of BJP workers.

Speaking at a press conference here on Monday June 2, he said that he had challenged Kumar to come out with facts, in respect of the land scam in Bangalore in which Kumar was allegedly involved. "During the election, supporters of Sunil Kumar, BJP leaders and workers of that party used to pose threat to him over phone, as they were unable to counter the above challenge. Now, Kumar has been, with the help of his supporters and party workers, spreading the rumour that he would eliminate me, as he thinks he had to face defeat because of the allegations levelled by me," Rao stated.

The BJP, its candidate and the workers are responsible for the defeat of the party's candidate in the election. If any attempt is made either to destroy or damage my property or to end my life, ex MLA Sunil Kumar, his party workers and leaders will be directly responsible, he said. Rao also claimed that two vehicles registered in Maharashtra trailed him on Sunday night, which he is sure, is a part of the conspiracy being hatched by the BJP. "As Karkala police too are pro-BJP, I will file a complaint with the district superintendent of police and seek police protection," he said.

Shubada Rao was accompanied by Congress leaders Harish Kini, Surendra Shetty Karkala and Hemanth Acharya at the press conference.
