Mangalore: Opening of Shiradi Ghat to Heavy Vehicles Delayed

Mangalore, May 30: Though it had been announced a few days ago that the Shiradi Ghat would be opened for traffic from Sunday June 1 onwards, it is going to take some more days as the finishing work is yet to be completed, said National Highway Authority (NHA) officers, here on Friday May 30.

Concreting of the 40-meter stretch of highway on two curves is in progress which would be completed in a few more days.  Hence, heavy traffic would be allowed from Wednesday June 4, once the concreted stretch of highway was strengthened, informed NHA officers.
 
The heavy vehicular traffic was banned since October 2007, when the major repairs on Mangalore – Bangalore NH 48 commenced. As most of the works on Shirady Ghat sections of NH are completed, NHA officers would allow light traffic including Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) for the comfort of passengers travelling to and fro the state capital Bangalore and the city.

    why can't NHA Officers/Executive Engineer take necessary action to finish this work before raining starts? so that it will be helpfull to the passengers who are strugling on NH48 on their way to Bangalore/mangalore
