Mangalore, May 30: The city's College of Fisheries, established in the year 1969 as the country's first fisheries college and second in Asia and now a constituent college under Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, is inviting applications from aspirants for varied courses offered by it.
Giving details to media persons on May 29, dean of the institution Dr Basavaraj said that the college is offering courses in BFSC (bachelor of fisheries science), a four-year programme with theoretical instructions and intensive practical training, MFSc (master of fisheries sciences) a two-year postgraduate course offered in various subjects such as aquaculture, fisheries microbiology, fisheries resources and management, fisheries environment and ecology, fish processing technology and also fisheries engineering and a three-year PhD programme.
He added, that for BFSc course, those who have cleared PUC with PCMB combination or equivalent are eligible to apply and CET rankings will not be applicable for the said course. Total intake is 42 for Karnataka students. In addition, 15% of the seats is reserved for nominated candidates from the union government; 5% for foreign nationals and one seat for Kashmiri migrants.
Application forms, to be issued from June 2 to June 25 will be available at College of Fisheries and can also be obtained from the registrar, KVAFSU, Bidar. Last date for submitting the applications is July 5, 2008.
From this academic year onwards, counselling for all the undergraduate programmes of the university will be held simultaneously at Veterinary College, Hebbal, Bangalore and at the university headquarter in Bidar.
Students from Karnataka are exempted from payment category. It costs around Rs 41,000 for general merit for all the four years and fee concession is applicable for SC/ST and for the OBC candidates as per the government regulations. The payment category students have to pay Rs 30,000 per year.
He also informed that students who have passed out from the college are gainfully employed not only in India but also in other countries both in public and private sectors.
