Mangalore: Excise Police Raid Spurious Liquor Den at Pavoor Uliya

Mangalore, May 21: An excise department special squad headed by DySP J Papaiah, raided Pavoor Uliya isle located near Adyar to detect production of illicit liquor in the early hours of Wednesday May 21.

The police have been successful in unearthing an illicit liquor production spot during their raid. But the persons engaged in producing spurious liquor escaped from the spot by jumping into Netravati river.

Police have seized the vessels used for liquor production and destroyed the brew kept ready for producing liquor. They have also seized about 25 liters of hooch produced at the said brewery.

Excise police have stated that operation against illicit liquor production will continue in an ongoing basis. One can recall that more than 150 people lost their lives in the state owing to consumption of spurious liquor and nine excise police personnel have been suspended in this regard.
