Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (AF)

Mangalore, May 13: The officials promoting Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) performed a bhoomi puja at Permude near here on Monday May 12 under large police protection.

The bhoomi puja was performed for Mukkodi Shri Vyaghra Chamundi Temple and Paraleguthu Shri Kodamanithaya Temples which will be shifted as they lie on the 15 acre land earmarked for the second phase of MSEZ.

There were protests by farmers led by Krishi Bhoomi Samrakshana Samiti who alleged that the officials had taken away their land forcefully.

However, the police managed to keep the protesters at bay and the puja concluded without any untoward incident. Later the protesters offered prayers to prevent the shifting of the temples.
