Kundapur: Three Killed in Truck, Car Collision on Highway

Kundapur, May 13: Three were killed and another three critically injured when a truck collided with a car near Bijur on National Highway 17 here on Monday May 12.

The deceased have been identified as Deepa (38), wife of Anil, a trader in Akki Aloor in Haveri district, Channaveerappa (40), car driver and truck driver Santhosh Reddy (22), a resident of Dharwad. Deepa's husband Anil and their relative Shivabasappa were seriously injured and were taken to a private hospital in Mangalore. 

According to sources Anil was coming to Manipal hospital along with his family to have a routine check up for his leg which he had injured in an car accident. It is said that the car was plying from Akki Alooru and the truck was going towards Bhatkal.

Reckless driving by the art of the truck driver is said to have been the cause for the accident. The truck was being driven at such high speed that after hitting the car it rammed a nearby tree thus causing the death of the driver even before he could be taken to the hospital.

A case has been registered in Byndoor police station in this regard.
