Mangalore, May 10: KMC Hospital, Attavar announced a Free Piles and Hernia camp in its premises on Monday May 12 and Tuesday May 13 from 9 am to 4 pm.

Hernia occurs when the contents of a body cavity bulge out of the area where they are normally contained. They may be present at birth or may develop later in life. Any condition that increases the pressure of the abdominal cavity may contribute to formation or worsening of hernia. Generally all hernias are repaired by surgery unless it is avoided due to any other medical condition. Surgical belts or bindings are helpful in keeping back protrusion of selected hernia, where surgery is not possible.

Piles is enlarged painful veins of the rectum and anus. It is generally associated with constipation, straining bowel movements. Surgery is recommended depending on the severity of the disease. In some cases self-care at home and remedies like warm water bath, dietary changes, stool softeners and sitting restrictions help to reduce the pain and swelling.
