Kundapur, May 10: The Kundapur women police have arrested four persons in connection with a dowry harassment case filed in the local police station by victim Balkis Banu.

Balkis Banu, a resident of Belve House of Kodi was given in marriage to Mahammad Iliyas Khader of Kumta on November 18, 2007 at Kodi Jumma Masjid. Balkis' parents had given Rs 1 lac in cash and 10 sovereigns of gold as dowry during the marriage to Iliyas.

However, within few months of their marriage, Iliyas' family started harassing Balkis to bring more dowry from her parental. His mother Hawabi, sisters Jainabi, Shamina and brother Altaf started inflicting even physical harassment on her in the later days. She was finally sent back to her parental in April 2008 to bring more dowry.

Having gone through all these ordeals, Balkis decided to take recourse to the law and filed a complaint with the police with the help of advocate Ravikiran Murdeshwar. Based on her complaint, police have now arrested Iliyas, Hawabi, Jainabi and Shamina.

Brides and their parents must stand firm when demanded for dowry. If it is given in goodwill well and good, and treat as final. Greedy husbands if they insist more, then act per the law. They are looking for money as life time companion and not a woman partner. shame on these husbands and their family memebers.
