  • State police launch website to deal with poll-related malpractices

Mangalore, May 7: You can now alert the police top brass in the State on election-related malpractices at the click of a mouse.

The initiative by the Director-General and Inspector General of Police R. Srikumar offers scope to register complaints pertaining to election-related malpractices and poll violence by logging on to www.kspelections.com

The home page informs netizens that the site has been created by the State police exclusively for Karnataka Assembly Elections, 2008. “We at Karnataka State Police strive to improve dissemination of information regarding Assembly elections, 2008, pertaining to security arrangements and other enforcement issues. We encourage you to explore this site to learn more about Karnataka State Police and its activities…” it says.

Those who want to lodge complaints on any election-related offence can also be assured of their confidentiality. A person has to tick a small dialogue box to ensure this aspect, and the information given is made available only to the seniormost police officer. He or she, however, has to fill in a few mandatory fields, including their valid e-mail id and telephone numbers to allow the department verify facts. People also have facility to lodge complaints regarding abusive or threatening SMSes in connection with the elections.

People can pass confidential information via phone call or fax pertaining to election-related offences, and violations, or send SMSes. They may go to the contact link on the website to send e-mail to the DGP. One can view up-to- date compilation of election- related steps taken by the police and information regarding important cases. The website gives details on Information Technology solutions being adopted by the police in the intra-department communication system through e-mails, fax, SMS, phone and video-conferencing. Mr. Srikumar told The Hindu that it had been his endeavour to use IT tools in every area of functioning.
