Puttur, May 3: The medical investigations have revealed that six persons are suffering from chikungunya in Kadaba and surrounding areas. They are known to suffer from high fever, body and joint ache and red patches all over the body and are under treatment in the government and private hospitals.

Medical officers assisted by health assistants from Kadaba primary health centre are treating those affected by chikungunya in the neighbouring areas of Balya, Kutrupady, Hosmara, Kodindala, Bantra, Betthody, Kembar, Konaje and other areas which come under the jurisdiction of Kadaba.

A few poor labourers who have recovered from chikungunya are not yet able to go back to their daily tasks. In some households the entire family has been affected by the disease. The political parties too feel the crunch of shortage of campaigners for the forthcoming assembly polls, owing to widespread disease in the surrounding areas.

Local zilla panchayat member Krishna Shetty has urged the health department to assign a special medical team to combat the chikungunya and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the district.
