A super speciality block of K S Hegde hospital will be inaugurated on Tuesday April 29 evening at K S Hegde auditorium at the medical college campus.  

Addressing media persons here on Monday April 28, N Vinay Hegde, president of the Nitte Education Trust giving details about the new addition, informed that Dr Mahesh Ramchandani, a well-known cardio-vascular surgeon, of Methodist hospital, Houston, Texas, USA., Dr K R Shetty, cardio-vascular surgeon of Cumballa Hill hospital, Mumbai and Dr N V Adyanthaya, a well-known medical practitioner, Mumbai will be the chief guests for the function.  Dr Ajith Adyanthaya a well-known cardiologist of Methodist hospital, Houston, USA will be the guest of honour during the function. 

Prior to this function, there will be a video conferencing between K S Hegde hospital and Methodist hospital, Houston, USA during which a panel of well-known cardiologists and cardiac surgeons of the city and Methodist hospital would interact.  The video conferencing will be inaugurated by Dr Michael Ellis Debakey, the world renowned cardio-vascular surgeon and researcher of USA.  The conference will be led by Dr Mahesh Ramchandani, Dr Ajith Adyanthaya and Dr Lumsden of Methodist Hospital, Houston, USA.

The super speciality department consists of the most advanced cardiology department, which is headed by Dr Subrahmanyam, a well-known cardiologist and Dr Gopalkrishnan Nambiar, a well-known cardiac surgeon.  The department has a state-of-art flat panel cath lab and advanced operation theatre with facilities for angiogram, angioplasty and valvuloplasty. The department also has a 6 bedded coronary intensive care unit with all modern equipments including intra-aortic balloon pump, external cardiac pacemaker, monitors with defibrillator. It is supported by well-trained paramedical and technical staff.

The hospital has very advanced treatment facilities in paediatric surgery, neurology, neuro surgery, urology, nephrology and craniofacial surgery.  It consists of wide ranging modern equipments like ultramodern cath lab, MRI scan, spiral CT scan, ultrasonography, mammography, dialysis unit, fully equipped 15 modern operation theatres, highly sophisticated laboratory, well-equipped ICU/ICCU, blood bank, etc. 

According to Vinay Hegde more than Rs 15 crore have been spent to build this super speciality wing, which has been constructed with a view to encouraging research activities in the hospital. The hospital has also introduced a set of special rooms including a/c and suits providing highest level of medical care, mainly targeting the middle class, he disclosed.
 
Dr M Shantaram Shetty, vice-chairman of the hospital, KSHEMA dean Dr Arunachalam Kumar, vice-dean Dr Santhosh Bhandary and other specialists were present at the press conference.
