Udupi: Four Nabbed for Transporting Sandalwood Illegally

Udupi, Apr 26: Kaup police have arrested four culprits who were involved in illegally tranporting and buying sandalwood here on Friday April 26.

The Kaup police acted on a tip and arrested two people who were transporting sandalwood by a scooter and took into custody 2.8 kg of sandalwood. The people who bought the sandalwood from them and were taking it to Kasargod were also arrested by the police and 3.2 kg of sandalwood, Rs 25,000 cash and two mobile phones were also siezed.

The people who were transporting the sandalwood have been identified as Moiddin (39) a resident of Manipur and Mayaddi (28) a resident of Chandra Nagar. Based on the information provided by the two culprits, police also arresteHaroon Rashid (23) a resident of Shirva, and Abdul Khadar (23) a resident of Kasargod who were the buyers.

Kaup station in-charge Joy Anthony, crime division officer S I Chandrashekar were involved in the operation.

A case has been registered at Kaup police station.
