Bangalore, Apr 24: Bangarappa, the former Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP from Shimoga, said he would file his nomination from Sagara constituency on April 26 and from Shikaripura on April 28.

Samajwadi Party's Karnataka unit President S Bangarappa has decided to contest from two assembly segments in Shimoga district including against BJP's Chief Ministerial nominee B.S.Yeddyurappa from Shikaripura constitutency, in next month's Karnataka assembly elections.

"I have decided to contest from Shikaripura and Sagara to ensure that I win at least from one of these constituencies", the former Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP from Shimoga said.

In Sagara, Bangarappa takes on his political rival Kagodu Thimmappa of the Congress.

Thimmappa hails from the Idiga community, to which Bangarappa belongs. In the 2004 assembly elections, Belur Gopalakrishna, a Bangarappa supporter, defeated Thimmappa. Gopalakrishna is Thimmappa's nephew.

Bangarappa said he would file his nomination from Sagara constituency on April 26 and from Shikaripura on April 28.

According to BJP sources,Yeddyurappa, however, has decided to seek re-election from Shikaripura, despite Bangarappa's threat to take on him.

Bangarappa told reporters that his son, Madhu will again take on his elder brother Kumar Bangarappa of Congress in Sorab, an assembly segment from where Bangarappa has won more than seven times.Kumar, a popular Kannada actor, had defeated Madhu in the last assembly polls and has fallen out with the family due to politicial differences.

Bangarappa firmly ruled out his party forging electoral pact with any party including Congress and JDS.

He termed as "baseless" a statement by congress leader S M Krishna that the party was in talks with SP for poll pact in Karnataka."We never knocked at the Congress doors for talks. It is that party which took the initiative and backed out.Similar is the  SP's experience with JDS", he said.
