Mangalore, Apr 24: The Hindu Rashtriya Sena will support Shakuntala Shetty in Puttur constituency if she contests independently, said Pramod Mutalik, national convener of the Sena.

Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, April 23, he clearly stated that Shakuntala Shetty is still claiming that she is  a BJP candidate. “ If she contests as BJP candidate, Sena will not support her.” he   said.

He further said that he had  already spoken to  her over telephone phone and made his stand clear. He would  personally meet Shakuntala Shetty on 27th April to further discuss  this issue. The final decision on supporting her would  be taken on April 28.

“The Sena will field its own candidate in Puttur if Shakuntala Shetty contests election from BJP”. he added.

The Hindu Rashtriya Sena will be fielding its candidates in two constituencies in Udupi district. “ Sena candidates will be fielded in all the constituencies in Dakshina Kannada “ said Mutalik . According to local sources , the  BJP state president always tried to curb off  power from the Rashtriya Sena in Puttur constituency.

On the other hand Shakuntala Shetty backed the Sena. This is one of the reasons for the rivalry between Sadanand Gowda and Shakuntala Shetty. Therefore, Sadanand Gowda took sweet revenge against Shakuntala Shetty by denying her a party  ticket to in the Puttur constituency. The Sena has now decided to play an important role in the Puttur constituency.
