Mangalore, Apr 19:
KMC Hospital near Ambedkar Circle, has added one more feather to its cap. For the first time in the city, the hospital has undertaken a revolutionary non-invasive surgical treatment for sinusitis, informed a press release here on Friday April 18.

Recently Dr Abhijit Kumar, consultant ENT surgeon and his team successfully accomplished the first-ever 'Balloon Sinuplasty' to be performed in the city. Sinusitis is defined as an inflammation of the sinus lining commonly caused by bacterial, viral and microbial infections. Structural issues such as ostial blockage add to the problem, informs the release.

Detailing on the treatment the press release gives the following information:

Advancing Sinusitis Treatment - 'Balloon Sinuplasty' technology extends the sinus surgery evolution by offering the surgeon additional tools for endoscopic surgery. They offer in carefully selected patients, a revolutionary new non-invasive and relatively bloodless surgical treatment option for patients with sinus disease. The positive side to 'Balloon Sinuplasty' is that there are no incisions or cutting and therefore no bruising or swelling. Instead of cutting, the balloon fractures the bones and spreads them apart, allowing the sinuses to be drained.

Further more, the press release goes on to inform that 'Balloon Sinuplasty' has been hailed as the most exciting medical advance in the ear, nose and throat field in the last 15 years. The number of sufferers who can benefit from this type of operation is huge. Unlike the one time painful surgical operation, Sinuplasty may have to be repeated, but sinusitis sufferers have said that they would rather have a 'Balloon Sinuplasty' five times than go through the more painful surgery once. With sinusitis causing sufferers pain for months on end, sinuplasty could finally offer a way to end those painful sinuses.

Dr Sunil Deshpande, COO of KMC has urged the public to make to maximum use of this opportunity.
