Thousands attend Yoga Day celebrations in Dhaka


Dhaka, Jun 21 (IANS): Thousands of people from all walks of life on Wednesday joined the International Yoga Day celebrations in Dhaka.

Bangladesh National Parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury inaugurated the event organised by the Indian High Commission at Bangabandhu National Stadium here, Bbdnews24 reported.

Over 4,000 people, including celebrities, joined the celebration and participated in the yoga exercises in chorus, according to the High Commission.

Bangladesh Sports Minister Biren Sikder was also present at the event where yoga mats were distributed among all the participants.

Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla reiterated New Delhi's commitment to help expand the practice of yoga, the report said.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in December 2014 unanimously decided to mark the International Yoga Day annually on June 21.
