International Yoga Day observed in Kolkata


Kolkata, Jun 21 (IANS): The International Yoga Day was celebrated in Kolkata on Wednesday, with thousands taking part in events across the city.

Personnel of the Indian Coast Guard participated in mass yoga conducted at the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters here.

"Yoga is a must in today's stressful life and we must all find time to practice yoga daily," said Inspector General Kuldip Singh Sheoran, the Regional Commander.

The Indian Museum in Kolkata celebrated the day with yoga exercises in the central courtyard of the building in collaboration with The Art of Living.

NCC Cadets in Kolkata also performed yoga at Brigade Parade Ground.

The West Bengal Council of Yoga and Naturopathy celebrated the day with the state government's Health and Family Welfare, Youth Services and Sports departments in the city.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in December 2014 unanimously decided to mark the International Yoga Day annually on June 21.
