Veggies, pulses drag inflation to record low of 2.18% in May


New Delhi, Jun 12 (PTI): Retail inflation fell to a record low of 2.18 per cent in May as prices of kitchen staples like vegetables and pulses declined sharply although there was a marginal spike in fruit rates.

Clothing, housing, fuel and light also saw lower inflation.

Retail inflation dropped to an all time low of 2.18 per cent in May. The CPI based retail inflation stood was at 2.99 per cent in April 2017. In May 2016, it was at 5.76 per cent.

The overall food inflation was in negative territory at (-) 1.05 per cent during the month. Prices of vegetables declined by 13.44 per cent and that of pulses and products by 19.45 per cent.

Earlier this month, the Reserve Bank had maintained status quo on key lending rate (repo) citing risks to inflation.

    If fake policy introduced by in educated people same results come ....in India present govt paying media to publish their own reports to save their party...most of actual figures not published by media..nowadays rich people not spending money for their luxurious products and all..so retail industry not performed well..most of poor working in retail industry losing their jobs...central govt acting like devil for poor people... Media should do fact serves in this industry ..in that poor work for daily food...most of people given option for transfer from their city's because of sale is less...now people don't have options to leave the hop because of poor rule by government... Govt policy directly hit poor people...people should think how present govt hit our stomach by their unprogressive rule....

    Has beef ban affected the inflation in anyway?. Beef export must have definitely jumped very high, you owe it to Gau Matha and sacrifice of beef eaters in India.
