S.Korean President's approval rating rebounds: Poll

Seoul, Jun 12 (IANS): South Korean President Moon Jae-in's approval rating has rebounded despite a controversy over the nomination of new cabinet members, a poll revealed on Monday.

According to the Realmeter poll, Moon's support was 78.9 per cent last week, up 0.8 percentage points from the previous week, reports Xinhua news agency.

The result was based on a survey of 2,022 voters conducted from June 5 to 9.

During last week's parliamentary confirmation hearings, controversies emerged over foreign minister nominee and the anti-trust watchdog nominee, but South Koreans seemed to support Moon's nominations.

The poll said Moon's supporters seemed to gather again as opposition parties attacked his nominations.

The main opposition Liberty Korea Party led the objections to the nominations citing the nominees' irregularities including the false address registration.

Moon's ruling Democratic Party logged 54.2 per cent in support scores, keeping the top post in all regions and ages.

The Liberty Korea Party gained 14.3 per cent of approval rating, followed by the centrist People's Party with 7.3 per cent and the minor progressive Justice Party with 6.7 per cent.

The minor conservative Righteous Party ranked fifth with 5.9 per cent, up 0.6 percentage points from a week ago.
