Udupi: Residents Protest against Overflow of Drainage Water

Udupi, Apr 11: The residents of Kodankur, led by Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike staged protest rally on Thursday April 10, against official apathy in solving the problem overflow of drainage water into human habitat which has resulted in increase in contagious diseases in the vicinity.

The protesters complained that the drainage water which flows through villages of Kalsanka, Bannanje, Mathadabettu, Moodanidambur, Nittur, Kodankur, Moodabettu, Garadi and Kodavur has contaminated water sources and polluted environment.  This is also resulted in a steep increase in contagious diseases like malaria, skin problems etc.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Udupi City Municipal Commissioner K M Shanubhag after the rally and requested him to solve the problems.

K K Hansavati, convener of Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike, Joseph George, Sudheendra Bhandary, Jagannath Poojary also participated in the rally.
