MP: six killed as police opens fire at farmers’ protest; curfew imposed

Bhopal, Jun 6 (Agencies) : Six people were killed as police allegedly opened fire at a farmers’ protest in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, where they were demanding higher rates for their produce and loan waivers, according to reports. Curfew has been imposed in sensitive areas.

Violence broke out on Tuesday during a farmers' protest in Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh following which curfew was clamped on Tuesday in Pipalya Mandi area and prohibitory orders imposed in other parts of the district, officials said.

Six farmers were killed after police opened fire on violent protesters in Bhai Parshnath area but Mandsaur Collector SK Singh has denied it.

"Curfew has been clamped in Pipalya Mandi police station area and in the rest of the district section 144 of CrPC has been imposed," Singh said over phone.

When asked about reports of death of three farmers, Singh said he does not have any such information.

Farmers in western Madhya Pradesh are protesting since June 1 demanding minimum support price for their farm produce, among other things.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan yesterday said his government is taking all necessary steps to address the issues of the agitating farmers.

A price stabilisation fund of Rs 1,000 crore would be set up to purchase the farm produce at the minimum support price (MSP), he had said.

The BJP government is anti-farmer. The ban on the sale of cattle destroyed millions of rupees in farmers' wealth by reducing the price of cattle.

As expected, TimesNow preferred debating on "TMC Funding", than "MP Farmers killing" in their yesterday's NewsHour!

Farmers killing is not at all a big thing to them. They preferred covering up the issue instead!!!

All that the farmers want is a minimum MSP .
If he cannot get back even his costs how can he survive .
The Input costs have gone through the Roof.
There are several issues like Demonetization which h they are yet to overcome .
Added to that is the Cattle Issues and they are unable to sell their old cattle.

The GST is another complicated issue which no one is clear except the Powers that matter.
Even Parle Biscuits are being levied 18 % GST . (Poor mans Biscuits)

Today the average Farmer earns not even Rs 25,000 per year.

The Dr M.S.Swaminathan Committee (NCF) has suggested a Minimum Support Price
of Costs Plus 50 % plus. This is reasonable. But till date no MSP Has been fixed as the Agriculture Ministry seems busy with other issues .

If Agriculture is neglected and the Farmers voices are not heard , we are asking for serious trouble and the BEGGING Bowls of 1960's will be out again.
Only FACT is this time around there will be NONE to fill the Bowls.
