Mangalore, Apr 8: Officials of the Transport Department will start marking buses with specified colours from Tuesday as per a decision taken at a meeting of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) here on March 31.
Regional Transport Officer D. Sadashiva said the buses would be marked to differentiate between the ones having a permit to enter the State Bank of India bus terminus and the service bus-stand and others. Buses licensed to operate from satellite bus-stands such as Mangaladevi, Kankanady, Kottara and Mallikatta will come under zone II and will be marked with a different colour. The process is termed colour coding.
The buses coming under zone I will be marked at Police Parade Grounds and those coming under zone II in front of the West Traffic Police Station at Kadri Hills. The body of the buses will be marked with paint of a specified colour on the right side, by driver’s door, and near the front door meant for passengers on the other side.
Marking for city buses in zone I will be done between April 8 and April 11, service buses from April 15 to 19 and other buses that operate to district headquarters such as Chikmagalur, Udupi and Shimoga, between April 21 and 24.
City buses under zone II will be marked on April 25 and 26, service buses on April 28 and 29 and buses that operate to other district headquarters on April 30.
