Bangalore, Apr 8: It is a bad news for corrupt government officials. On the other hand, it is glad news for the Lokayukta which has been fighting against corrupt officials.

Amendment has been made in Karnataka State Employees’ Service Act and now an employee can be suspended immediately if he/she found Corrupt. With this amendment the “toothless” tiger got sharp teeth to fight the corrupt.

Earlier, the officials were suspended when they were caught while receiving bribe. But the present amendment allows the Lokayukta to suspend officials who were caught for having more asset disproporate to his known income.

Lokayukta Santosh Hegde has submitted a proposal to the government to bring amendment to this earlier the government has not  shown any interest to amend this rule. Therefore, the officers were escaping from Lokayukta even they were caught in connection with possession of excessive asset. Lokayukta had to put pressure on government to suspend them immediately.

Santhosh Hegde had put pressure on Governor Rameshwar Takoor, through media to amend the rule to punish the guilty. Through this amendment the Lokayukta can suspend the employee while accepting bribe and also if having  asset more than  his known income.

Though amendment was effected  a week ago it was made public on Monday. Lokayuktha has assured the public that its struggle will continue against corruption.
