Mangalore: Rally to Create Awareness on Women's Rights

Mahila Sanghagala Jala will take out a rally on Thursday April 10 to spread awareness on women's rights. It is a group of 41 organizations.

Talking to reporters here the group's convener Rita Noronha said that about 5,000 women will particpate in the rally.

She added that crimes like female infanticide and atrocities on women are prevalent even in educationally and socially forward districts like Dakshina Kannada. She said that many such incidents are not brought to light due to lack of awarness among women. The purpose of the rally is to create awareness of such incidents among the general public, she added.

The group wants 33 percent reservation for women in parliment and state legislsture to be introduced without any delay. The rally will start from Light House Hill and conclude at Police Ground following which there will be a public meet, she added.
