Mangalore, Apr 3: Any post in the human resource (HR) department is a position of responsibility and a successful HR executive needs to know how to handle employees and colleagues, advised Fr Francis Serrao, rector of St Aloysius College Institutions.

He was delivering the presidential address at 'Crux 2008,' a two-day annual HR workshop on unravelling the avenues of HR competencies, organized by St Aloysius College Institute of Social Work here on Thursday April 3.

Underlining the need to know more languages, the rector informed that developing and enhancing professional skills is far more essential rather than just mugging up the books and trying to gain bookish knowledge.

Explaining the fundamentals of education, Fr Serrao said education is an exploration, making oneself aware of the ground realities and developing analytical skills. He opined succinctly, 'education is not merely attending classes, writing examinations and getting high scores. The truly educated person is one who has the capability to think critically and respond creatively.'

Student Deepak Harsha, proposed the vote of thanks. Also present on the occasion were Fr Swebert D'Silva, principal of St Aloysius First Grade College, Savitha Pereira, faculty of the institution and participants from various city-based colleges.
