M’lore: Alva's Bags Trophy in Inter-collegiate Sports Competitions

Mangalore, Apr 1: Alva's Education Foundation, Moodbidri has bagged all-round championship at the 2007-08 inter-collegiate sports competitions, held recently.

Prof K M Kaverappa, vice-chancellor of Mangalore University and Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva's Education Foundation presented the trophies to the winners of inter-collegiate sports and cultural competitions, during the programme held at old senate auditorium of Mangalore University.  

Alva's Education Foundation bagged all-round championship by securing first place in both men's and women's division.  St Aloysius College and SDM College, Ujire secured second and third places respectively, in men’s division.  SDM College, Ujire and Mangalore University secured second and third places respectively, in women’s division.

The athletes were presented with cash award of around Rs1.64 lac and certificates, on the same occasion. Manjunath T of Alva's Education Foundation, gold medalist in 5000 meters race was awarded with Rs 10,000.  The winner of silver and bronze were awarded with Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 each and certificates.

The gold winning badminton team was awarded with Rs 2,500 each and certificates.  Aniket D’Souza, ace swimmer of SDM College was awarded with Rs 5,000 and certificate.

Physical education director Dr Nagalingappa, student welfare officer Dr K Chinnappa Gowda, were present on the occasion.  Physical education assistant director Dr Kishore Kumar welcomed the gathering.  Dr Gerald D’Souza compered the programme.  Lecturer Ravishankar proposed vote of thanks.
