Udupi: Kisan Sangha Demands Compensation for Damaged Crops

Udupi, Mar 31:
'Unseasonal rains have caused large scale damage to the standing crops in the district, hence farmers in the district must be compensated,' demanded Bharatiya Kisan Sangha here on Sunday March 30.
 
'Areca nuts and cashew nuts are the worst hit crops,' pointed out Vasudev Shanubagh, treasurer of the Sangha, Udupi district.
 
The Sangha has also submitted a memorandum urging the union and the state governments to pay compensation for the crop damage to the farmers.
 
The Sangha has also requested farmers to submit in writing complete details of crop damages to the authorities concerned such as the department of agriculture, department of horticulture and tahsildars.  

'It is always safer to have photographs of crop damage in order to claim insurance or compensation,' the Sangha advised.
 
Application forms are available at offices of the Sangha. Farmers are requested to obtain applications and submit it to the authorities concerned at the earliest, the Sangha informed.
