Ireland: Mangaloreans Meet in Dublin

Ireland, Mar 26: The Easter celebrations by KONKANS‘ IRELAND– the organisation of Konkani speaking people in Ireland was held on 23rd March, 2008 at Lucan, County Dublin. It was attended by more than 50 families.

The function began at 10.30 am. The members were welcomed by Glany and Savitha, the comperes for the function

The President of the association for the year 2008 Alwyn Fernandes welcomed the gathering and outlined the various activities the organisation planned to undertake this year.

Ashok Coutino, the outgoing President of the association presented the achievements of the organisation in the last year to the gathering. Also mentioned was the starting in the year 2007 of monthly prayer meetings which are held in a member’s house. The list for the year 2008 has been drawn for these meetings.

Ida presented the account statement for the Christmas celebrations held on 16th December, 2007 which was unanimously approved by the gathering

Monica Mathias presented a report of the Christmas Day celebrations.

Light refreshments were served to the members to energize them for the hectic day ahead.

We were very fortunate to have in our midst Father Daryl from Mumbai who was kind enough to celebrate the Easter Mass for us.

After the mass the gathering was fed a sumptuous meal of pork, sannas, chicken curry, chicken fry, pulav rice and salad. The pork and sannas were prepared by some of our members and we thank them for this. Father Daryl D’Souza blessed the food and thanked the lord for giving us this meal.

The afternoon was dedicated to wild celebrations of games, skits, antakshari, children fancy dress and ended with the a lively dance performance by the gathering.

The children treated the adults to a professional performance on the ramp with their colour dress and accessories. It would have made Naomi Campbell blush is excitement

Various skits were also presented by Alywyn Fernandes, Ida, Ashok Cutinha and Vijay Benis.
