Agra, Mar 26: 24 hours have lapsed since little Vandana fell into a borewell and got stuck at a depth of 47 feet below the ground level. Efforts have been on since then in full swing to rescue her. The latest reports suggest that the Army team has successfully built the tunnel and are very close to rescuing her. But the rescue teams are afraid of the receding daylight now. Officials feel Vandana may be rescued in another half an hour.

Police and medical officials present at the site say Vandana is alive and in healthy state. They are waiting to rescue her and then she will undergo various tests before she is discharged after being declared fit.

There has been a huge public outcry since morning and this time people are not calling this incident a media hype , rather they are asking questions to the civic authorites on their carelessness and oversight.

Agra: Two-year-old Girl Falls into 180-feet Borewell - Rescue Efforts on

Agra, Mar 26: Just as most people across the country were about to forget the episode of young Prince having fallen in a borwell, harsh memories returned when a two-year-old girl fell into a borewell in a village near Agra on the Agra-Mumbai highway.

Latest reports coming from the site of the accident in a village near the City of Taj- Agra, state that the 2 year old girl Vandana has fallen into 180-feet-deep borewell. She is at present stuck up at the 47-feet-level of the borewell, for the past 18 hours ! (she fell down into the borewell around 5.30 pm IST on Tuesday  March 25).

From early morning oxygen is being delivered to the child through a pipe that is reaching her.

She has been repeatedly crying and only her shrieks can be heard as of now. Her father is maintaining communication with her and in between her sobs, she has been asking for food. She has been sent juice, tea , biscuits and some other food items.

Efforts are on to rescue her. The Army has been roped into the efforts. Another parallel borwell has been dug up and the efforts to make a 5-feet tunnel connecting the new borewell to borewell where the girl is trapped have started .The locals and armymen who are trying their best to rescue the child say that they hope they should be able to rescue the child by 3 pm IST.

The District Magistrate, Mukesh Meshram speaking to reporters has informed that ten army men and other members of their team are carefully making a tunnel to reach the trapped girl. He also informed that doctors with an ambulance from the SN Medical College in Agra are present at the site to provide immediate medical evaluation and emergency treatment for the child.

The DIG Mr Kamal Saxena has expressed his grief over the issue and has said hes making sure no stones are left unturned to rescue the girl.

On being asked what action they would take against those people responsible for leaving such borewells uncovered, both the DM and DIG promised to take action against them.

Presently, the army men are very slowly and carefully carving a tunnel to reach the girl. Efforts cannot be hastened as the sand in the area is lose and there is danger of the sand filling up the pit, which could turn into a fatality for Vandana.

People in the locality and all over the country are praying for the well being of the child.

Most people are feeling it is sad that incidents like that of Prince falling into the borwell and now Little Vandana's fall into the borewell are being repeated and few people along with administration are still showing laxity and carelessness.

I think these kids falling in borewells have become a common phenomenon in India just to gain publicity and fame. Last time when Prince fell that was understood as a mistake, later 2 similar incidents took place, I think the parents of these children should be punished firstly for negligence.

Dont they check the place around when they leave the tiny tots to play or they dont care loosing their kids for some fame and publicity. Just for the fault of these stupid parents so much valuable time of the Army, Police and Doctors are wasted. I wish the police would take into custody the parents of such children and bring them to task.

We have seen many such incidents on TV Indian army rushes to spot and media covers the news throughout the episode and doing really well job, hats off to them. It would be great if they look for such dangerous wells across the India and take necessary measures to close it so that such incidents do not occur in future and put small kids life in danger.

There is definitely some authority who is responsible for this tragedy and that human being who draws his salary but fails to do his duty must be punished severely. But who cares? Whose child is it anyway? Where are those lawyers who file public interest litigations on matters that are least interesting. Can't the court take suo moto notice of this case?

It is a really a miracle and also great efforts to save her life by the people involved to save the life of Vandana. We all appreciate, feel happy thankful and greatful to the great service of those people.

There are a few questions which occur in our minds like, Why do the companies who drill borewell have to abandon the borewell's and leave it open after the job is completed. Why there are no precautionary measures taken for safety by the drilling companies as it is a known risk to keep these borewell open. This is not a first incident in our country.

This is nothing but pure negligence by our people who live by the surrounding, our law, and the companies who are authorised to do this type of jobs. In our country safety measures are given less importance because first of all we do not know the value of human life, We think we are over populated so it is not a big issue.

Secondly we do not know how to use technology as we do not have our own technology developed. We absolutely depend on other countries for technology. As you know even the Plough used for ploughing tied to the ox for agriculture cultivation is a collabration (sand mixing cast iron) from united kingdom,by kirloskar in 1880. This is the first invention of Laxmanrao kirloskar in india.
