M’lore: Docs Entreat People to Come Forward for Eye Donation

Mangalore, Mar 25: A symposium on ‘How to Make Eye Donation Effective’ was held at Rishi Dhyana Kendra here on Monday March 25 evening.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Manjunath Kamath, president of Ophthalmologists’ Association, said that there are 45 million visually impaired people in the world and 80 percent of their problem could be cured through treatment, he informed.

The other 20 percent could be cured if people come forward to donate their eyes, he opined.

Sujatha, recipient of eye donation, explained her experiences after the transplant. She was blind for 7 years owing to the aching eye before she got eyesight after transplant. Now she is glad that she can see this world again, she said expressing her happiness.

Dr Francis E A Rodrigues, head of ophthalmology department in Fr Muller Hospital, IMA president Dr Sathish Bhandary and ophthalmologist Dr Jayaram Shetty participated in the symposium.

District surgeon Dr Prabhudev presided over the function.
