Udupi: Panchayat Issues Directives to Raze Illegal Hutments

Udupi, Mar 23: President and vice president of Padubidri village panchayat, have been directed to stop illegal erection of huts forthwith on government land near Kanchinadka Minchina Bavi near here, sources confirmed here on Saturday March 22.
 
Thereupon the village panchayat have given the said directives, as the locals here expressed strong opposition to the erection of huts and encroachment on the plot, the same sources added.



 

The Panchayat had ear-marked certain plots for the CRZ displaced and for public functions. But the land was encroached by some persons overnight to build huts.
 
Surprisingly persons holding the site of five cents attempted to erect huts, this enraged the public, who in turn  objected and complained to the village panchayat on Friday March 21.
 
Tension prevailed as villagers and the huts residents were embroiled in heated arguments. It was due to the timely intervention of Sumitra Devadiga, president of Gram Panchayat and others who pacified all and directed them to stop erection of huts, the source informed.
 
The villagers here have warned that they would stage agitation, if the huts are not razed, the source added.
