Udupi: Country Boat Fishermen Stage Protest Over Better Facilities

Udupi, Mar 21: The traditional fisheries community associated with Country Boat Fishermen Association in the district, held the protest in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner (DC) on Thursday March 20 morning. 

The protest was held with the traditional fishermen fraternity led by MP Manorama Madhwaraj, Upendra Hosabettu, Sharat Guddekopla, Annappa Kharvi, Janardhan Tingalaya. 

They presented memorandum to DC Hemalatha Ponnuraj, urging the state administration to hike the outboard engine capacity from 10 HP to 25 HP, in order to venture into deep sea to net good quantity of fisheries stock, to grant loan to fishermen at 4 percent at par with agriculturists advanced by both Co-Operative / nationalized banks and their genuine demand to hike the Fishermen Relief Fund from Rs 12,500 to Rs 25, 000.
