NEW DELHI, Mar 18: With Pakistan set to hang Indian national Sarabjit Singh on April 1, the UPA government may find itself having to fend off fresh attacks for the delay in the execution of Afzal Guru, convicted in the Parliament attack case.

BJP looks all set to renew the attack on the government for not carrying out the death penalty to Guru for attacking Parliament on December 13, 2001, if Sarabjit is sent to the gallows.

The main opposition feels that the execution of Sarabjit's death sentence will help it put the focus on the reluctance to mete out the punishment to Guru.

The contrast, BJP believes, will provide credibility to its criticism of the government's "soft" stance on terrorism. Sources said that a countrywide bandh may be considered to highlight an issue which, in their estimate, resonates well with the public, particularly in urban areas.
