Inspector Arrested for Robbing Actress

Dindigul, Mar 5: A police inspector has been taken into custody on charges of forcefully taking away Rs 19,000 and two mobile phones from a television actress who was briefly detained during a night patrol last month.
 
According to official sources here, inspector Janardhanan, attached to Vadamadurai police station, intercepted the car on which the actress and four men were travelling on February 22.

The inspector allegedly asked the men to leave, took the woman to a lodge and set her free only after she had handed over the money and phones.

Police said cases had been registered against the inspector under IPC section 342 (illegal detention) 364 (a) (kidnapping for ransom) 506 (criminal intimidation) 419 (cheating) and 387 (putting person in fear of death).

Janardhanan was sent to the Dindigul sub-jail on Tuesday, police said, adding that further investigations were on.
