M'lore: Presence of Mind, Superior Knowledge Must for Social Worker

Mangalore, Mar 4: The annual state-level HR seminar of the MSW department of Srinivas Institute of Management Studies (SIMS), 'Manthana-08' with the theme 'Soft Skills Rx-A Prescription for Effectives,' was held at the institute premises here on Monday March 3.

The function was presided over by the president of A Shyama Rao foundation (ASRF) A Raghavendra Rao. Principal Dr P S Aithal welcomed the gathering.

Raghavendra Rao in his presidential address called upon the social work students to be honest, dedicated, devoted and hard working to achieve their goals in life. "Presence of mind and superior knowledge are the basic requirements of a social worker," he specified.

Speaking on the occasion the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony president of ZP K P Sucharita Shetty, advised that those who involved themselves in social work should be committed and must do so from the heart for the larger good and development of society. According to him social workers play a vital role in the implementation of various schemes at the grass-roots level.

State and Central governments should focus more on rural areas while implementing schemes. The role of personnel who are qualified in social work is significant in the upliftment of society especially in the rural areas, he declared.  ASRF president A Srinivas Rao in his speech made a plea to the authorities to appoint MSW degree holders in all gram panchayat units.

Also present were MCF vice-president (human resources) A Fernandes, Jayakrishna Parisara Premi Samiti president Jayakrishna Shetty, A Shama Rao foundation (ASRF) secretary D Shashikala R Rao, coordinators V Nagaraj and Prof Sriram Karanth. The programme was followed by a series of talks on various topics pertaining to social work by eminent resource persons.
