28 Killed in Sri Lanka, Fighter Jets Bomb LTTE Base

Colombo, Mar 4: At least 25 militants and three soldiers were killed in intense clashes in the restive northern Sri Lanka as fighter jets bombed a LTTE base on Monday, officials said.

Sri Lanka Air force supersonic fighter jets pounded on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) communication base located in general area Kulamurippu, six km North East of Oddusudan, in northern Mulaitivu this afternoon, the Defence ministry said.

The communication base had transmission towers too, it said adding the pilots confirmed the target was accurately hit inflicting maximum damage to the terror base.

In ground clashes, the army killed at least eight militants in clashes in Kokkuthuduwai in North-East Welioya on Sunday, the army said adding two soldiers lost their lives and ten sustained injuries in the incident.
