New York, Mar 3:
An NRI manager of a convenience store in Virginia state of the US was shot dead during an attempted robbery.

Jayeshkumar Brahmbhatt, 52, who came to Roanoke county in the state from India six years ago, was fatally shot on Thursday by a man who fled soon after, The Roanoke Times reported on Saturday.

Police have arrested Calvin Bond Watson, 51, and charged him with murder. They are also investigating his possible involvement in two other robberies. He has a long criminal history and was out on parole.

Brahmbhatt had planned to celebrate his family's new house next week. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

"He worked very hard to build his life and it all went for nothing," said Asit Inamdar, Brahmbhatt's nephew.

Brahmbhatt had managed the One Stop Market for six years. His employer Atul Patel said the killing has left several of his other clerks worried about their safety. He said, however, that his store is equipped with security systems and surveillance cameras.
