Woman held for running sex racket in Delhi

New Delhi, March 2 (IANS): A woman was arrested for human trafficking and running a sex racket in the capital, police said on Thursday.

Police said Keballina M. Sangma is a member of an inter- state prostitution racket.

She used to lure girls from the north-east states by promising them well paying jobs in Delhi.

Sangma would then force them into the sex trade, police said.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said Sangma was arrested on February 21 from a Hadimba Devi Temple at Manali in Himachal Pradesh.

The accused is married and worked in a beauty parlour earlier.

"She later came in contact with one Taniya through her friend Tyana Sangma in Guwahati. Taniya introduced her to Biru, Dhanraj and Nikhi who were living in Delhi and were into human trafficking. They would lure innocent girls with attractive jobs," Yadav said.

"Sangma is a resident of Meghalaya and used to target girls who were living separately from their parents and were in need of sustaining themselves," he added.

This gang was active in south Delhi and Gurugram, police said.

She was also carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on her head.

A woman from Meghalaya had filed a police complaint against Sangma and others on August 6, 2016.

She said that she was brought to Guwahati from her village by one Radhika Marak on the pretext of a job with good salary.

She was then handed over to Sangma and later to Nikhil, who forced her into prostitution.

She was also beaten and threatened by Nikhil when she refused to do so.

The victim had managed to escape from Nikhil's flat and approached an NGO on August 6 last year.

Police is searching for the other gang members, Yadav said.
