Udupi, Feb 29: A neolithic axe, upper paleolithic blade and scrappers were unearthed from a paddy field belonging to a certain Sundari Shetty. The field lies north-east to her house near Sri Mahisamardini temple, at Indrali, near here, on Wednesday February 27.
The neolithic axe is 9 centimeters in length with 6 centimeters of sharp edge. The outer portion of axe has been withered due to natural causes while a part of the sharp edge has been broken. The rare axe and scrappers were unearthed from the loose soil at the corner of the paddy field.
It was stumbled upon by the archeologists when they were undertaking research on the recently found massive burial cave belonging to iron-age, stated Prof T Murugeri, history lecturer of Mulky Sundar Rao Shetty College, Shirva and K Sridar Bhat, history teacher of Kamalabai High School.
