Puttur: Repair Works at Shiradi Ghat Stopped

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (GA)

Puttur, Feb 27: The repair works being undertaken at Shiradi Ghat have come to a grinding halt after trucks bringing cement, iron roads and other things stopped plying two days ago.

Lorrie stopped plying after some unidentified miscreants pelted stones at them at Balupete.  Eversince lorries are not playing from Hassan.  Even the situation is similar in Mangalore from were cement was fetched.  The truck drivers are unwilling to load the lorries.

The sudden stop of supply of construction materials has put all the work in jeopardy.  As per the schedule, Shiradi Ghat must be thrown open for public by April 30.  But now almost 120 workers who have come from Haveri for work are sitting idle without any work. Though they are being paid, they have threatened that they would return if they do not have any work.

As known lorries are off road these days protesting against the proposed installation of speed governors.  So this is the right time to repair Shiradi Ghat since hardly any trucks are plying on Shiradi Ghat.  But non-supply of construction materials is proving to be a barrier now.
